Voice Coaching for Performers

There are many approaches to voice training for actors and performers, some more technically focused and others that use imagination as a means of ‘freeing up’ the voice and its potential. Ashley Howard maintains a fine balance between a performers’ technical proficiency and the natural responsiveness of the voice as a manifestation of the performers’ emotional life. Through identifying clear aims and objectives, designed specifically to meet the individual needs of the coaching situation, this relationship can be explored as a means of developing exciting, versatile and expressive voices.

Ashley is currently voice coaching at The Oxford School of Drama, working with a highly gifted and motivated team of practitioners on their one-year foundation, three-year diploma and one-year post-graduate acting programmes. Graduates of the school have gone on to work with The Royal Shakespeare Company, Out of Joint, The Royal National Theatre and the Barbican Centre among many more. He is also teaching voice at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts on the three-year Diploma in Musical Theatre. In addition to coaching on numerous productions including Lope De Vega’s Fuente Ova Juna directed by Michael Platt and the Romany Theatre Company's premiere of The Ursitory (2006) adapted by RSC Actor Julian Harries and directed by Eastern Angles Founder Patricia Whymark, he has also taught voice at East 15 Acting School on the Foundation Level programmes and most recently at the Central School of Speech and Drama on the MA Acting for Screen programme.
